Kane Brown performed his new song “Worship You” for the first time on TV at the 2020 CMT Music Awards from the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville on Wednesday (Oct. 21).
Playing to an empty open-air stadium, Brown crooned the sweet love song, from his Mixtape Vol. 1 EP, with his band behind him. “Don’t get me wrong I’m a God-fearing Christian man/ But if you were a religion, then damn/ I don’t know what I’d do,” he sang, a black baseball cap featuring the word “family” on his head. “Yeah, I might have to worship you/ I might have to sing your praise/ I might have to go to church, yeah/ Every single night and day.”
Brown received two nominations for this year’s awards.
The show, which featured both live and pre-taped segments, was hosted by Brown, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, and Ashley McBryde. It was filmed from Nashville, with performances done at various locations around Tennessee. The fan-voted ceremony was originally planned for June 3, but was rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
