“I remember sitting on the couch with my mom, watching Diana Ross come out, host a show and have all of these feather boas on,” she told Billboard backstage after the awards show, where she put on her dancing shoes for a mega medley of 2015 hits from Nicki Minaj‘s “Anaconda” to Fetty Wap‘s “Trap Queen.”
“It was all very inspiring to me,” she continued. “It’s not something I would’ve chosen to do — like ‘Let me host!’ — but when they asked I thought, ‘Maybe it’ll be something really beautiful for me to do.’”

The dancing queen said that staying true to herself was her top priority as host. “[I was] just kinda not trying to be a comedian, not trying to be anything but myself and just play to my strengths, and pay tribute to all the great artists of the year.”
J.Lo also offered a brief update on her forthcoming Las Vegas residency, kicking off on Jan. 20. “We have been in conceptual planning for months,” she said. “We’ll be ready. We still got a couple months. We’re gonna be alright.”
