Janelle Monáe took the stage at the 2019 Grammys to deliver a sleek performance of her funky track “Make Me Feel.”
Guitar in hand, the singer took the stage in a black and white vinyl suit, reminiscent of queer pop pioneer Klaus Nomi, for a slickly-choreographed rendition of the Dirty Computer lead single. After kicking off the performance with a troupe of dancers, Monáe busted out a solo dance routine as smoke filled the stage floor.
During the dance breakdown, Monáe spliced pieces of other Dirty Computer — including “Django Jane” and “Pynk” — into her set. The iconic “pussy pants” from her Grammy-nominated “Pynk” music video even made a quick cameo.
After showing her footwork, the singer ended her set alongside an all-female band and proclaimed “I love you dirty computers,” before dropping her microphone.
Monáe received two nominations for this year’s Grammys, including a nod for album of the year. Her visual for “Pynk” was nominated for best music video, but it was announced in the show pre-telecast that the award went to Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.”
