Halsey Reveals Her Side Gig as a Voice Actor at the Billboard Music Awards: Watch
Halsey stopped to chat with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 20), discussing her song with Big Sean, revealing a little-known fact about herself and divulging how she and her boyfriend G-Eazy keep each other motivated as musicians and performers.
Speaking of working with Big Sean on her track “Alone,” Halsey explains, “I had the record on the album originally and Sean and I had been wanting to work together for a long time, cause we’re really good friends and I’m a big fan of his and I found this song and I wanted to give it a little facelift when I put it out…and I was like, ‘What can I do to make this song more special?’ And the answer was Big Sean.”
“We had talked a couple of times about doing a record together,” she continues, “and there were some I really wanted for him on the album but the timing just wasn’t right, so when this one came around…he texted me and said, ‘I love that song,’ and I was like, ‘Weird, I really want you to feature on it, so if you will.’ And he nailed it.”
The singer is also asked about the movie that is reportedly being made about her life. While she says that it is “just a rumor for now,” she adds, “I don’t know, my life’s gonna have to get a little bit more interesting before we do that.”
Asked if she would like to get into acting, the “Bad at Love” singer says, “absolutely,” revealing that a lot of people are unaware that she does a lot of voice acting. “I do it kind of on the low, I don’t put it under my own name,” she says. “So I do like Scooby-Doo and American Dad. I have like a weird voice, so I embrace it. So I’d probably love to get into something where I could be really animated, cause I’m pretty animated.”
Halsey also discusses what’s next for her, sharing that she is in the “pre-stages” of working on new music and is currently “collecting ideas and experiences and things that I like that I think could be nice to revisit once I get in the studio.”
Plus, she reveals how she and her boyfriend G-Eazy keep each other motivated in their art, telling Billboard, “We’re both each other’s biggest fan and also each other’s hardest critic, so we can tell each other the stuff that other people might be afraid to say to us…But we need each other to make each other better. The best thing I think that you can be for your partner or look for in a partner is someone who wants you to be a better you.”
