For the 2018 Grammy Awards, Pitch Perfect actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld showed off her elevated-meets-feminine sense of style, thanks in part to her collaboration with the Jennifer Lopez-approved styling duo Rob and Mariel, who dressed her in Alexandre Vauthier.
To amplify her chic ensemble, hairstylist Gregory Russell explains that he was inspired by the singer’s white, strapless, thigh-high statement-making dress to create a “glamorous-yet-effortless look to juxtapose the graphic and structured look of her dress and [knee-high, pointed-toe purple] boots.” To achieve this beauty look, he worked “a generous amount of John Frieda Luxurious Volume Mousse from root to tip” on Steinfeld’s damp hair before blowing out her tresses with a multi-bristle brush.
After selecting a deep left side part, Russell created the perfect soft wave by focusing on two-inch sections of hair at a time. He lightly misted John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray to each two-inch section of hair, then brushed it out to help evenly distribute the product and used a one-and-a-half-inch flat iron “for an effortless, relaxed look.”

Russell, who also counts Bebe Rexha, Nicole Richie and Lily Collins as clients, followed up with a pearl-size amount of John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Cream to the ends of her hair for added definition and frizz control. To keep the 21-year-old’s waves in place, he tucked one side of hair behind her ear and sprayed John Frieda Luxurious Volume Refresh Dry Shampoo throughout for added texture. To complete her ‘do, Russel paid “close attention” to her bangs using John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray to lock them in place for the evening.
