Gabby Barrett has enjoyed one of the biggest breakout years of any artist in country music, and at the 2020 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (Oct. 21), the singer-songwriter treated her performance of her smash “I Hope” like a well-deserved victory lap.
Rocking a sequined pant suit and hexagonal earrings, Barrett commanded the stage, sneering through the iciest lines of her hit single and showcasing the voice that the country world has quickly embraced. Strobe lights flashed, smoke billowed from onstage machines, and the performance fittingly concluded with an explosion of fireworks behind Barrett and her band.
“I Hope” has topped the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, and recently entered the top 10 of the Hot 100 chart, with its remix featuring Charlie Puth peaking at No. 8 thus far. The single comes from Barrett’s debut studio album, Goldmine, which was released in June.
