R&B breakout artist Ella Mai will perform “Boo’d Up” at Tuesday’s 2018 American Music Awards, dick clark productions announced exclusively to Billboard on Friday (Oct. 5).
The 23-year-old British singer/songwriter has been nominated for favorite female artist and favorite song (“Boo’d Up”) in the soul/R&B categories. She recently broke the record for the most weeks a woman has been at No. 1 on Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with the song, which was formerly held by Mary J. Blige‘s “Be Without You” in 2006.
As a special addition, Mai will also deliver an encore performance of “Trip” for Comcast’s Xfinity TV customers exclusively on Xfinity On Demand immediately following the telecast. Xfinity TV customers can also watch archival American Music Awards content on Xfinity On Demand leading up to the show.
Mai joins previously announced performers Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift, who will open this year’s show. In addition, the broadcast will feature several highly anticipated team-ups, including Shawn Mendes with Zedd; benny blanco, Halsey and Khalid; Cardi B with Bad Bunny and J Balvin; Ciara and Missy Elliott; and Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign. What’s more, Panic! at the Disco will pay homage to Queen with a performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and there will also be a special tribute to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
The 2018 American Music Awards will broadcast live from Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday on ABC.
