DJ Khaled has had a major year, to put it mildly. In addition to earning his very first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Major Key back in August, the project also scored a best rap album nomination at next month’s Grammy Awards.
As part of Billboard‘s new Grammy video series, we asked Khaled to film his reaction to the nomination news — and he delivered in luxurious fashion, opening up in his very own fireside chat.
“The reason why I think this album has so much impact on the people and fan love and the whole world is just because they’re a part of it, you know what I’m saying?” he says about getting his fans involved in every aspect of his career. “Major Key, I made sure all my fans was a part of creating it with me.”
The notorious workaholic even suggests he could give up his Snapchat Kingdom if he wins Grammy gold (not that he ever would). “I can retire after that,” he says. “I’m good. I can retire tomorrow. I’m not gonna retire, but I’m saying I could retire and say, ‘I made it. I did it. It’s official.'”
But he’ll be cheering just as hard if any his fellow best rap album nominees — Chance the Rapper, De La Soul, Drake, ScHoolboy Q or Kanye West — takes home the prize instead, because he’s all about the love.
“I wanna see everybody win,” he says. “The key is love. Love is the answer, love is the key. I want everybody to win. First of all, we all won. We won already. We got nominated. So first of all, congratulations to everybody. Let’s win more.”
The Grammys will air live Sunday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
