Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield crashed the Critics’ Choice Awards stage on Sunday night.
After HBO’s Silicon Valley was announced as best comedy series, Stanfield — clad in a captain’s hat reading “Venezia,” the Italian word for “Venice” — hit the stage and jumped in front of the microphone before the show’s executive producer Tom Lassally had a chance to. (Silicon Valley beat out FX’s Atlanta, among other shows, for the top comedy series honor.)
“I want to thank everybody for honoring us in this way. We worked very hard on Silicon Valley, and here we are. Thank you,” Stanfield said, as Lassally looked on from behind presenters Christian Slater and Leslie Mann.
Stanfield quickly exited the stage, with Lassally then saying: “I have no idea who that was. Wow.”
Earlier in the night, Atlanta star Donald Glover won best actor in a comedy series.
