Following Taylor Swift’s Artist of the Decade hits medley at the 2019 American Music Awards was surely no easy task, but when you’ve got a voice like Christina Aguilera‘s, these are the challenges you accept.
Performing alongside A Great Big World, Christina’s vocals sounded effortless and amazing on “Fall On Me,” her latest collaboration with the piano-pop duo.
Seated at a glistening, white Steinway piano, A Great Big World vocalist Ian Axel got the ballad going, manning the opening lines before Aguilera stole the show. It’s no secret the pair have a strong chemistry together; back in 2013, they teamed for the massive pop hit “Say Something,” which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Their latest collab is duet, originally written by A Great Big World and performed by Andrea Bocelli and Matteo Bocelli in 2018. Aguilera and AGBW’s version dropped on Friday (Nov. 22), so the string-laced AMAs performance at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater marked its first major showcase. Time will tell if it conjures the magic of the pair’s previous hit.
For more on the original version of “Fall On Me,” watch the Bocellis perform it on The Late Show last year.
