The brand-new soundtrack for the faith-based movie Breakthrough dropped Friday, led by “I’m Standing With You,” sung by the film’s star, This Is Us actress Chrissy Metz. At the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards, she brought the ballad to life with an impassioned performance.
This rendition of “I’m Standing With You,” penned by songwriting legend Diane Warren, marked Metz’s first live television vocal performance. She was joined on the Las Vegas stage by a trio of other artists from the soundtrack — Lauren Alaina, Maddie & Tae and Mickey Guyton — to help out on vocals. Carrie Underwood also joined in toward the end of the song to add to the powerful vocal showcase. Out April 17, the 20th Century Fox film tells the true story of a young man who survived 45 minutes without a pulse after being submerged in an icy lake. Metz plays Joyce Smith, the young man’s mother.
