
Chris Rock made the trek from Hollywood to Compton for a “fresh perspective” on the Oscars.
“Well, I guess it’s about giving blacks a chance to win,” says one interviewee when asked by Rock to put the Oscar controversy into his own words. Rock then inquired cinema goers at the Compton theater if they had seen other Oscar-nominated films like Brooklyn and Bridge of Spies (Straight Outta Compton — a nominee for best original screenplay — got a resounding yes) as well as their favorite white movies of the year.

Lastly, the 88th Academy Awards host handed a real Oscar trophy to attendees and asked for their message to the Academy.
“This should not jus tbe white — it should be Asian, Hispanic, there’s so many talent out there of all races,” one man said while a white person made a cameo, joking, “I’d like to thank the Academy for nominating another white person…”

One woman summed it up: “You give black actors more awards because they deserve it and work hard for it just like anybody else. How ’bout that, America?”
