Chiquis caught up with Billboard’s Leila Cobo on the red carpet at the Latin AMAs on Thursday (Oct. 17), chatting about adjusting to married life and what it’s like writing and recording music with her husband Lorenzo Mendez. Plus, she teases some new music with him.

Chiquis, who got married nearly four months ago, tells Billboard that things are going really well so far in their marriage and that she appreciates how Mendez understands her musical career and she understands his. “That helps a lot,” she says.
She reveals that the pair have actually been in the studio writing songs together, and that they like helping bounce ideas off of each other.
“It’s worked out very well,” she shares. “I never thought I would date someone or marry someone in the same industry, but it’s worked out.”
“He’s been in the music industry since he was little,” she continues. “He’s been a singer since eight, I think, so he’s taught me a lot. I’ve taught him a lot about the business side of it, so it’s worked out very, very well.”
In the interview, Chiquis also reveals that the pair have two songs coming out together: one on her album and one on his.
“We’ve been writing together. Stuff that’s very different,” she says. “We love every type of music – country, rap, everything – so we’re doing a little fusion.”
