Celine Dion’s tribute to Paris during Sunday night’s American Music Awards came with a token, of sorts.
The Canadian singer was carrying a ticket for the Paris Metro in her pocket while performing the Edith Piaf classic “Hymne a L’Amour,” Dion told photographer Kevin Mazur as he photographed her with singer Ariana Grande.
The Metro is the city’s subway system and a common mode of transportation for Paris’ 10.5 million residents.

As a tribute to the many lives lost — and countless lives affected — by the recent Paris attacks, Dion gave the decades-old song new life with her powerhouse vocals while a montage of Paris landmarks and makeshift memorials outside Le Bataclan appeared on the screen behind her.
