Carrie Underwood took a brief pause from co-hosting duties on Wednesday night (Nov. 13) at the Country Music Association Awards to perform a smoldering, jazzy rendition of her latest Cry Pretty single, “Drinking Alone”
Wearing a sequin-covered black outfit and a black Panama hat, Carrie led a band that also included a sax player, an upright bass player and several backing vocalists. The performance was an appropriately sultry one of the misleadingly titled strutter, which is built around the chorus lyric, “We should be drinking alone together.”
“Drinking Alone” is the fourth single to be released off 2018’s Cry Pretty, Underwood’s sixth full-length LP, and debuted at No. 50 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart this week. The country star is nominated for three awards at this year’s CMA Awards, including the coveted entertainer of the year trophy.
