There’s never a dull moment with Cardi B, and her 2019 Grammys performance was no exception. The rapper performed her newest single “Money,” bringing glitz, glamour and a little bit of twerking to the Grammy stage.
The performance kicked off with a dramatic piano intro, with Cardi making a dramatic entrance in a bedazzled cheetah bodysuit and floor-length purple jacket. As she made her way down to the diamond-encrusted piano, Cardi rapped her hit with prowess and poise, before taking her place atop the piano and declaring, “Welcome to the Grammys!” (Sure, it was 90 minutes into the broadcast, but one can assume she meant Cardi’s Grammys.)
Cardi then busted out some seductive legwork, complete with twerks and twirls that she and her dancers busted out in sync. The performance put Cardi’s panache at the forefront as she strutted across the stage, with none of the sparkles and choreography taking away from her impressive vocal performance. And despite their recent drama, Offset looked on proudly, especially when Cardi threw up a hand heart during her “Money” shout-out to their baby girl Kulture.
Cardi is a five-time nominee tonight, up for record of the year for “I Like It,” album of the year and best rap album Invasion of Privacy, best rap performance for “Be Careful” and best pop duo/group performance for her Maroon 5 collaboration “Girls Like You.”
