BTS caught up with Billboard’s Keith Caulfield backstage at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1), chatting about winning top duo/group, what fans can expect from their upcoming live shows, and who they really want to collaborate with one day.
Asked how it feels to win top/duo group at the BBMAs, RM tells Billboard, “We did it! For the first time ever. We did top social artist for three years, but main category, first time…everyone’s freaking out…thank you ARMY, you did it!”
Speaking of their upcoming tour dates and playing to such massive audiences, RM notes that singing in Korean to fans at the Rose Bowl Stadium is crazy, and they can’t even imagine it.
As for how these upcoming shows will differ from their recent performances, he notes that there will be new songs and new equipment. “It’s gonna be stronger,” he says.
BTS are then asked who they are still hoping to join musical forces with one day, to which RM expresses his excitement over meeting Drake.
“We just met Drake,” he exclaims. “Finally took a picture. We just made it, and J-Hope was in ‘In My Feelings’ music video for the challenge, so we’re all fans of Drake. And, of course, Madonna and Mariah, they’re the legends. Tori Kelly, and of course our friend Khalid.”
Finally, the group is asked what is left that they want to accomplish, and RM takes a moment to thank their fans. “I think we achieve more than even what we deserve thanks to the ARMY around the world,” he says. “It feels like we’re on a rollercoaster and all we gotta do is enjoy the ride, take a deep breath, and do the best performances and songs.”
