Country met R&B at the 2019 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday (June 5), as Brett Young and Boyz II Men shared the stage for a performance of Young’s “Here Tonight,” with a little piece of Boyz II Men’s “Water Runs Dry.”
The unlikely pairing turned out to be a match made in heaven, as the trio’s soaring harmonies blended effortlessly with the 38-year-old singer’s Southern twang. Woodland visuals on the screen transformed the stage in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena into a serene late night by the fire.
The group previously collaborated on CMT’s Crossroads special in March, as Young hopped on Boyz II Men’s iconic “I’ll Make Love to You.” The country crooner also covered the trio’s 1995 hit “Water Runs Dry” throughout his CMT Here Tonight tour last year.
“Here Tonight” is featured on Young’s 2018 album, Ticket to L.A.. See all the winners from the 2019 CMT Music Awards here and watch part of the cross-genre performance below.
