Black Pumas showed the true “Colors” of two hard-working musicians during their performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
A Gibson Hazard-directed clip first showed the duo take a trip down memory lane of their career, including Eric Burton’s early years of performing at Santa Monica Pier.
“I moved to California from New Mexico about 2014. I would take like two trains and two buses to Santa Monica Pier,” Burton reminisced during the clip. “I would be performing on the street. But in my mind, I’m performing on stage at the Grammys.”
He and Adrian Quesada dazzled the stage with red and yellow-colored lights surrounding their insignia for the electrifying performance. And a couple of black puma statues on the stage added to their fierceness of Burton’s growl.
“Colors” is nominated for both record of the year and best American roots performance. The duo is also up for album of the year for the deluxe edition of their eponymous debut album.
