Non-breaking news: Billie Eilish is an exceptional vocalist.
It might get lost in the whispered, ASMR-inspired delivery on her studio work, but the 18-year old superstar possesses meticulous, gripping vocal prowess. For her first ever Grammys performance, Billie Eilish didn’t go with her ubiquitous No. 1 hit but an emotional ballad that showed off this often-understated quality.
“When the Party’s Over” came to life on the Staples Center stage with Billie on the mic and her brother/collaborator Finneas at her side, on keys and backing vocals. Billie poured herself into the emotions of every syllable, doing her best to let the morose piano track swell and fill the arena. Bonus points for the matching Gucci suits.
At the time of the performance, Billie Eilish had claimed one of her six nominations — the pre-televised best pop vocal album Grammy — with the status of her Big Four nominations still unknown. For the latest on all the Grammy winners, check out the link below.
