Bebe Rexha caught up with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday to chat about crossing over into country music, her new album and why Jennifer Lopez inspires her as a musician.
Rexha, whose song “Meant to Be” featured country act Florida Georgia Line, says that she would “absolutely” love to work with country artists again in the future. “I have some things in the works,” she says. “Being in the country world…I’ve never felt love like that before so I’m very grateful for it and I just think it’s so unexpected and beautiful and amazing.”
The singer also discusses her new album Expectations, which drops June 22, telling Billboard, “I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m everything all in one.”
Describing where her head space was when she wrote the record, Rexha says, “I think I was kind of like…life is so unexpected, I was just happy, I was sad, I was just growing up and learning that in certain things in life you just never know what’s gonna happen, and that’s what this album is about. There’s happy moments, sad moments. So I think it’s like a realization of life.”
Asked which artist has inspired her the most this year, Rexha names Jennifer Lopez, revealing that she has always been a fan of hers. Having seen her perform live on the previous night, she says Lopez was “incredible. I think just her as a performer, her endurance, I just think she’s incredible.”
