Ashley McBryde kicked off her performance of “Martha Divine” at the 2020 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday (Oct. 21) with a rocking sound and light show at The Barn at Sycamore Farms in Arrington, Tenn.
With the stage lit in up in red and lights flashing, McBryde was center stage with her electric guitar and looking fierce in black leather as she belted out the dark lyrics from her newest single off Never Will. “Martha Divine, Martha Divine/ You put your hands on the wrong damn man this time/ Jezebel, you’re bound for Hell/ But evidently, the devil was busy so I moved you up in line, Martha Divine,” sang the artist, who was nominated for three awards this year.
Her backing band members all socially distanced from each other and wore face masks as they performed, a reminder of the coronavirus pandemic even as country music celebrated with the fan-voted awards show.
The show, which was broadcast from Nashville and various spots around Tennessee, was cohosted by Kane Brown, Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland, and McBryde. The ceremony was originally scheduled for June 3, but was delayed due to the ongoing global health crisis. It featured both pre-taped and live elements.
