On Monday (April 29), dick clark productions and NBC announced that Ariana Grande is partnering with T-Mobile for a special “7 Rings” performance from a sold-out tour stop at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
Grande, who kicked off the BBMAs last year with “no tears left to cry,” joins previously announced performers Taylor Swift with Brendon Urie, BTS featuring Halsey, Ciara, Kelly Clarkson, Lauren Daigle, Dan + Shay, Halsey, Jonas Brothers, Tori Kelly, Khalid, Madonna and Maluma, Panic! at the Disco and Icon Award recipient Mariah Carey.
The pop superstar has dominated the Billboard charts over the past year, as 2018’s Sweetener marked her third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Soon after, “thank u, next” became the artist’s first Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper. “7 Rings” followed at No. 1 and her thank u, next album topped the Billboard 200 just under six months after her last No. 1 — the shortest gap between new No. 1s on the chart for a woman since 1975.
Ari is also nominated for nine awards at this year’s ceremony, including top artist, Billboard chart achievement award and top female artist. The 2019 BBMAs, hosted for a second year by Kelly Clarkson, will air from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
