
As a member of the The Lonely Island — who is featured on the single version of The Lego Movie‘s Oscar-nominated best original song, “Everything Is Awesome” — Andy Samberg could understandably view himself as an artist in the same medium as his wife, folk chanteuse Joanna Newsom. However, the Golden Globe-winning Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor tells Billboard that his music isn’t even in the same stratosphere as that of his wife, whom he refers to as his “favorite musician.” He also has a theory as to why The Lego Movie wasn’t nominated in a key Oscar category — and it has to do with the almighty dollar. Meanwhile, Samberg offers an explanation as to why he and his fellow Lonely Island crew weren’t recipients of the Oscar nomination (he jokes about an antiquated system of not allowing too many songwriters) and why The Lego Movie was snubbed in the best animated feature category. “I guess people were mad at it for making all of the money?” he theorizes. “I’m allowed to say it! I didn’t make that movie, I just love that movie. It was great.”
