Singer-songwriter Andra Day was honored Friday (Dec. 9) as the recipient of Billboard’s Women in Music “Powerhouse” award. Her moving performance of the Grammy-nominated “Rise Up,” which was accompanied by the Boys & Girls Harbor children’s choir of Harlem, was as inspiring as her glamorous red carpet and performance look.

Day wore a luscious, flowing custom Kimono over a red Victoria Hayes slip dress. The Powerhouse honoree, whose personal style draws from rockabilly aesthetics, collaborated with celebrity stylist Wouri Vice on her memorable ensemble for the night. The rich colors and smooth textures of her look were adorned with oversize Larrucci earrings, Sophia Webster sandals, and a dramatic vintage Hollywood updo by hairstylist Tony Medina. “Andrea likes to personalize her hairstyles by making it a little funky as well,” Medina told Billboard about her eye catching hairstyle.
As for makeup, Day’s bold, custom-blended red lip and sharp cat eye echoed the sophistication of the 50’s and 60’s from which she pulls her inspiration. A shimmery Pat McGrath Labs Metalmorphosis copper and gold shadow highlighted her eyes and the high planes of her cheekbones to complete the alluring look. “Andra is the ultimate powerhouse in my eyes because of her authenticity,” says makeup artist Porsche Cooper. “She is so true to who you see on red carpets or on television.”
