Adele paid homage to pop great George Michael Sunday night (Feb. 12) at the 59th Annual Grammys, in her second performance of the evening. For her tribute, she sang Michael’s “Fastlove,” a Hot 100 top 10 hit off his 1996 album Older — though she called for a mulligan after her initial rendition of the performance started off-key.
The singer stopped the performance in the middle of her first chorus — cursing in frustration and claiming “I f–ked up, I can’t do it again like last year,” in reference to her tech issue-plagued performance of “All I Ask” at the 2016 Grammys — and insisted that she had to do right by Michael with a second-chance performance (“I cant mess this up for him”).
The spine-tingling, balladic arrangement of Michael’s dance-pop hit — this time in the right key — was easily worth the wait, and she received a roaring standing ovation for her second take.
