The nominations for the 12th annual Shorty Awards were released Tuesday (Jan. 21), and those honored for best use of social media include music all-stars Beyoncé, Zendaya, Lil Nas X, J Balvin, Demi Lovato, Paula Abdul, Anderson .Paak and more.
This year, TikTok celebs landed nominations in far more categories than just their branded “TikTokker of the Year” prize, including Food & Drink, Meme of the Year, Weird and Beauty. The viral social media platform spurred many challenges and crazes over the last year, including a lot of hit songs like “Old Town Road.”
The “Old Town Road” hitmaker himself has locked down a spot in the Music category, as well as AJR, Anderson .Paak, Billie Eilish, Blanco Brown, Brandi Carlile, Celine Dion, J Balvin, Lizzo, Mike Posner, Missy Elliott and Twice.
Beyoncé, Zendaya, Lovato and Abdul, in addition to Keke Palmer, Adam Sandler, Blake Griffin, David Beckham, Jonathan Van Ness, Michael Strahan, Jennifer Aniston and Tessa Thompson, all qualified as nominees for the Celebrity (Arts & Entertainment) section.
Khalid and Lady Gaga‘s names also appear in the nominations, but not under Music or Celebrity: The Khalid Happy Dance and Lady Gaga Eye Roll both made it under the GIF of the Year (Content) category. The “Formation” and “Good As Hell” singers hit the nominations list with a double whammy, since they’re both also posted on the Instagram of the Year (Content) category as “Beyoncé on shoes” and “Lizzo post AMAs”, which joins “John Mayer‘s bottle cap kick” and “Will Smith getting to 50m followers.”
Fans can vote online once a day, per influencer, on the Shorty Awards website, while being able to cast an extra vote by sharing on Twitter and Facebook through the site until voting closes. Finalists are determined by public votes and rankings from The Real Time Academy.
The 2020 Shorty Awards will be held May 3 at 1515 Broadway Theater in New York City and live-streamed on the site. Click here for the full list of Shorty Awards nominees in each influencer category.
