The Grammy Awards get more anticipated with every passing year, from the unforgettable performances (including Demi Lovato’s comeback, Tyler, The Creator‘s earth-shattering delivery and the Nipsey Hussle tribute) to surprise guests.
For the 2020 ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night (Jan. 26), the celebrities not only stepped up their game on the Staples Center’s stage — but also on the red carpet.
There was a fun mix of get-ups, including neon suits, carpet-enveloping gowns and intricate accessories. From consistent red carpet showstoppers like Lil Nas X and Cardi B to suited up stars like the Jonas Brothers, Billboard rounded up all of the stylish outfits from this year’s festivities.
Check out our picks for best dressed below.
10. Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani is well-known for her provocative fashion, and this year’s Grammys showing was no different. Rather than wearing a flowing gown, the star decided to rock an ivory Dolce & Gabbana mini-dress that was dotted with flower decals. Stefani kept things monochrome with matching thigh-high boots, minimal glowy makeup and slicked-back (and extra-long) platinum blond locks.
9. Jonas Brothers
It can be a bit difficult to outfit all-star boy bands (remember those Y2K-era getups from *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys?), but the Jonas Brothers nailed it on the red carpet thanks to their dapper suits. Opting not to go with full-on matching suits, the pop trio decided to thread their looks together with gold and black detailing. Nick donned an all-bronze suit, Joe wore a patterned bomber jacket and matching trousers, and Kevin sported a gold blazer adorned with black birds.
8. Brandi Carlile
Brandi Carlile truly knows how to rock a suit! The country star entered the red carpet in a blue three-piece get-up that was made even more eye-popping with its all-over blue and silver floral print. And naturally, the suit was tailored to perfection — thanks to it being custom-made by designers Wolk Morais.
7. Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish’s oversized unisex outifts have become part of her go-to style, and she decided to elevate that look at this year’s ceremony. The first-time Grammy winner matched her neon green hair with her custom head-to-toe Gucci ensemble, which sparkled beneath the red carpet lights. She completed the look with gold Gucci hoop earrings, long manicured nails dotted with the designer’s iconic logo and emerald-green leather Flashtrek sneakers.
6. Cardi B
Cardi B may not have stopped to pose for the red carpet, but the Grammy-winning rapper couldn’t hide from the cameras for too long thanks to her Mugler gown. The look was equal parts sexy and glamorous, due to the sheer fabric and cascade of crystals. In signature Cardi B fashion, she stacked an armful of diamond bracelets and a custom Gismondi 1754 necklace. The sole pop of color came from her purple-and-pink hued eyeshadow.
5. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande decided to not attend the Grammys last year in protest of not performing last year, but she returned in incredible style to ring in the new decade. The “7 Rings” star looked like a modern-day princess in her grey Giambattista Valli dress with matching gloves, whose seemingly endless layers of grey tulle completely enveloped the red carpet.
4. FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs looked stunning in a bewitching Ed Marler gown fit for a millenial remake of Hocus Pocus, thanks to its grey-and-black lace underlay, poufy black satin sleeves and pink skirt. The singer, who tributed Prince with tonight’s performance, also wore simple black Jimmy Choo shoes and vintage earrings from Bentley and Skinner.
3. Billy Porter
The Pose star channeled his inner ‘70s disco diva for this sequined teal jumpsuit designed by Baja East. But just when you thought the outfit was over-the-top in glamour, Porter took things to the next level with a retractable crystal fringe that veiled his hat, custom crystal-embellished Coach platform boots and graphic blue eye makeup á la Cleopatra.
Lizzo was the most nominated artist of the night, so it was only fitting the singer had a Cinderella moment on the red carpet — with a pop star-inspired spin, of course! She took a page out of Britney Spears’ Grammys look 20 years ago, with her sequin-adorned white strapless gown (courtesy of Versace) and matching feathered shawl. Lizzo completed the elegant ensemble with a neckful of diamonds and cascading waves fit for a Hollywood starlet.
1. Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X has become one of music’s coolest young fashion stars, thanks to his love for vibrant and abstract interpretations of the classic cowboy look. For the 2020 Grammys, the 20-year-old stepped onto the red carpet in a hot pink ensemble that caused a mini-Twitter frenzy.
The artist leveled up his signature cowboy hat-and-suit combination by rocking a custom Versace outfit that’s studded with gold details. To make the outfit even more edgy, Lil Nas X decided to rock a daring harness and mesh shirt underneath his cropped blazer. He topped it all off with matching Versace medusa earrings and scarves on each wrist.
