The first one went her way. Eilish claimed her second trophy on the evening for song of the year, winning alongside her brother Finneas for “Bad Guy,” the No. 1 Hot 100 hit they co-wrote for her 2019 debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
The award was presented by Smokey Robinson and Little Big Town, who combined to deliver a brief a cappella performance of the Temptations’ “My Girl” before revealing the winner.
“Bad Guy” defeated seven other finalists in the field (performing artist in parenthesis): “Always Remember Us This Way” (Lady Gaga), “Bring My Flowers Now” (Tanya Tucker), “Hard Place” (H.E.R.), “Lover” (Taylor Swift), “Norman F-cking Rockwell” (Lana Del Rey), “Someone You Loved” (Lewis Capaldi), and “Truth Hurts” (Lizzo).
When Eilish and Finneas accepted the Grammy, they were just minutes from knowing if they’d claim any (or all) of the other “Big Four”: record of the year, best new artist, and album of the year.
