When the 2020 Golden Globes nominations were announced Monday morning (Dec. 9), fans and critics alike took to social media to express their disappointment for various snubs in a number of categories.
Citing directors such as Ava Duvernay (When They See Us), Greta Gerwig (Little Women) and more, many moviegoers were outraged by the lack of female representation in either of the best direction categories. “Not to be that guy again,” one fan tweeted, “but where all my women director nominations at?”
Others remained vocal about actors such as Lupita Nyong’o and Zendaya being left of the list of nominees for their starring turns in Us and HBO’s Euphoria, respectively.
And while many fans focused on the lack of diversity among acting and directing categories, a particular contingent of Frozen 2 fans took issue with “Into the Unknown” being nominated over what they saw as the far superior “Show Yourself” from the smash Disney sequel.
Check out the best reactions to the Golden Globes nominations and snubs below.
Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Alma Ha’rel (Honey Boy), Greta Gerwig (Little Women)
All snubbed. Not a single female director nominated this year, despite their films receiving nominations in other categories and awards. Don’t tell me this business is fair. #GoldenGlobes

Why did they do @WhenTheySeeUs and @ava like that?? Where are the nominations for the #GoldenGlobes?? I can’t believe they snubbed them like that, what a joke.

The fact that @Lupita_Nyongo and When They See Us were not nominated is unconscionable #goldenglobes

The absence of Lupita Nyong’o for Us is just astounding.
Playing both “Red” and “Adelaide” as so distinctive yet connected to the point that we weren’t sure which was which is a performance I’ll never forget.
It’s depressing that the #GoldenGlobes did. pic.twitter.com/oADiZQPSIe

Show Yourself >>>> Into the Unknown #GoldenGlobes #Frozen2

Your daily reminder that “Into The Unknown,” as much as I love it, is not the best song in #Frozen2, and usually the best original song in a film is not the one to get the award nominations. #GoldenGlobes
