Veteran film composer Alexandre Desplat took home best score at the 2018 Golden Globes on Sunday night (Jan. 7). It was the composer’s second win in nine nominations at the awards, the first coming for The Painted Veil in 2007.
“Merci beaucoup,” Desplat begun his acceptance speech, going on to give special shoutout to Water director Guillermo Del Toro. “Your movie has moved me so much, inspired me so much,” the composer gushed, before thanking Del Toro for “all the dinners we had in Paris, and many more to come.”
Desplat’s Shape of Water score emerged victorious in the category over the music to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Carter Burwell), Phantom Thread (Johnny Greenwood), The Post (John Williams) and Dunkirk (Hans Zimmer). The Shape of Water is the most-nominated movie at the ’18 Golden Globes, earning seven nods, including best picture.
