The 2016 Oscars went down Sunday at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Academy Award, Lady Gaga delivered a stirring live performance, and Spotlight won best picture. But for those at home online, there was still plenty of irreverent fun to be had.
Here is the story of the 2016 Oscars told through the very finest memes the Internet had to offer.

Unfortunately, we have to lead with a cringe-inducing one.
During the red carpet, Total Beauty tweeted that it had no idea Oprah had a tattoo. Only it wasn’t Oprah; it was Whoopi Goldberg. The tweet was eventually deleted, but mass screen-grabbing ensued, and someone probably got in a lot of trouble.

Stacey Dash’s non sequitur appearance was one of the most awkward moments you’ll ever see on a televised awards show.

The actress came onstage and joked about Black History Month, referencing prior comments she’d made suggesting the event undermined people of color. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t go over well…

As the presentation of best picture neared, meme-makers wondered if they could break out their Crying Jordans for Leo:
