
The nominations for the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Monday (Dec. 11).
James Franco was noticed in the best actor category for his method turn in The Disaster Artist, with breakout star Daniel Kaluuya earning a notice in the same race for the smash horror flick Get Out and Mary J. Blige getting a nod for her strong performance in the supporting actress category for Mudbound, as well as a nomination for best original song for a motion picture for her collaboration with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson on “Mighty River” from that film.
Mariah Carey also earned a nomination in that category for her work with Marc Shaiman on the title track to the animated film The Star, while Nick Jonas shared a nomination with Justin Tranter and Nick Monson for “Home” from the animated film Ferdinand. In the best original score race veterans Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk), John Williams (The Post) and Carter Burwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) will vie with Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water) and Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread).
Director Guillermo Del Toro’s magical cross-species love story The Shape of Water leads all nominees with 7 nods, followed by Steven Spielberg’s journalism drama The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with 6 and actress Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird with 4. The all-star HBO ensemble series Big Little Lies led all TV shows with 6 nominations, including one for each of the lead actresses, followed by FX’s historical drama Feud: Bette and Joan, which lodged 4 nominations.
