Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend, and we’re all wondering what The Weeknd might have up his red leather sleeve for the halftime show. Thankfully, the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast knew just who to ask for some possible clues: Billboard dance director Katie Bain, who interviewed The Weeknd — as well as his XO Records inner-circle — for the magazine’s latest cover story.
The cover story included a few nuggets about the halftime show, including that The Weeknd put up $7 million of his own money to bring his vision to life and that he’s hoping for a “cinematic experience,” like all of his remote awards show performances from 2020. But there were a few questions we really wanted to pick Katie’s brain about after spending time with Team Weeknd: What might he perform, and does his new 18-song collection The Highlights offer any hints? Who might join him among his many A-list collaborators over the years, or does he even need guests?
