We have a very special episode of the Must-Hear Music Podcast this week. The exceedingly talented and incisive singer-songwriter Tori Amos stopped by the podcast to chat about The Light Princess, her first stage musical. It debuted in the U.K. in 2013, and following the No. 2 debut of the cast recording on the Billboard Broadway Album chart just this month, Amos was in New York to talk about bringing it to Broadway with various producers.
She also stopped by Billboard to talk about her first theatrical musical endeavor. During our sit-down chat, Amos talks about her hopes and concerns for the Broadway production and an in-the-works screenplay that could bring The Light Princess to the silver screen. She also explains how her daughter played a role in keeping her honest as she wrote a musical about two star-crossed teenagers, and how writing for musical theater differs from her usual fare. Check out the original cast recording right here.
Aside from our special guest, we (myself, Erin Strecker and Chris Payne) also talk about Adele’s record-breaking “Hello,” Grimes‘ surprisingly poppy “Flesh Without Blood” from her upcoming album Art Angels and One Direction‘s safe, but nice, “Perfect.”
