There’s more to Tanlines than sun-kissed indie synthpop. The band is built on two distinct personas, which compliment each other like a yin and yang — the same symbol the band just adopted as its new logo.
Eric Emm is the frontman live; he sings lead vocals and writes the lyrics, but it’s multi-instrumentalist Jesse Cohen who provides the banter in between songs, in addition to running the irreverent Tanlines Twitter, which reads more like a snarky journalist’s. Cohen also hosts his own music and culture podcast — “No Effects” — making this easily the most meta edition of The Alt In Our Stars yet.
Tanlines discussed working with Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor on new LP Highlights, the evolution of their album art, and what makes a great tweet, in their delightful deadpan personas.
