“I drank a little too much. I was on the couch curled up in disbelief,” the artist MILCK recalls of the 2016 presidential election, which came at an already turbulent time in her life.
“My management’s dropped me and now this guy Trump is president — what is happening?” she remembers thinking. But despair soon led to action, as she quickly organized a group of fellow a cappella singers from around the country to meet her at the Women’s March in D.C. to perform her self-empowerment anthem “Quiet.” A video of their crowd performance ended up going viral, and now a year later, MILCK is signed to Atlantic and has a new EP out titled This Is Not the End.
“Activism is a whole art form that I’m learning,” she admits. “If I’m completely vulnerable and open with my weaknesses, it will empower other people to be like, ‘Oh, OK, that’s like me and I can do that, too.'”
