“I’m literally cleaning toilets by day, driving a van overnight to play a show,” Carly Pearce recounts on this week’s Soul Sisters podcast.
She’s describing her journey, from dropping out of high school at 16 to work at Dollywood, to moving to Nashville and watching friends like Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini leapfrog to success while she was still hustling as a singer/songwriter, and also “cleaning Airbnb’s and nannying and working retail.”
When her song “Every Little Thing” went No. 1 on the Country Airplay Chart, however, she could feel that things were finally about to change. “When we all moved to Nashville, females were not really embraced the way males were,” she remembers. But now on the backs of her friends’ success, she says “it’s been a little bit of a domino affect.”
