Shinedown’s never released a single that didn’t go top five at Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock chart. Not one! That’s 23 songs over 15 years.
Their fiery single “Devil” continued that streak this year, preluding Shinedown’s sixth studio album; the band was eager to hype ATTENTION ATTENTION it on this week’s #AlternativeFacts.
“We’re releasing, in my personal opinion, the best best album we’ve ever put together,” frontman Brent Smith says of the narrative-focused LP, which follows an individual’s rise from crippling lows to sublime enlightenment across its 14 tracks. “It’s a record about not being afraid to fail, point blank.”
Smith and bassist Eric Bass (who produced the new record) went deep on the crowd-pleasing rock band’s new album, and the personal tribulations that led them to explore such an introspective approach. They also looked to the past, and projected the future.
“The original contract with Atlantic was for six albums,” Smith explains. “ATTENTION ATTENTION is our sixth record. “Towards October of last year we got a call – before we had turned in the record – saying [Atlantic] would like to sign an extension for two more albums after the sixth record.”
