Welcome to the latest episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard’s weekly half-hour audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year’s biggest musical events. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and Billboard.com senior editor Katie Atkinson every Tuesday on the free Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in iTunes (click here to listen to the previous episode on Billboard.com).
On the latest episode, we wrap the year with a special “Ask the Pop Shop” segment where we take questions from listeners (about everyone from Mariah Carey and Kylie Minogue to Iggy Azalea and Carly Rae Jepsen). We also welcome two guests to the show: singer/songwriter Andy Grammer and fellow podcast host Charlie Harding (of Switched on Pop).
Grammer dropped by the Billboard office to talk about his big year with Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit “Honey, I’m Good” and his latest single, “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah),” which just debuted on the Hot 100 (dated Jan. 2, 2016). In addition, Grammer discusses competing on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, his time working as a street performer in Santa Monica, Calif., meeting Sting, and what he’s aiming to do next.
Harding, who co-hosts the podcast Switched on Pop with musicologist Nate Sloan, visited the Pop Shop to discuss the year in pop and some trends that the music experts noticed. Harding broke down the nine No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015 by the numbers, including their average BPM. This interview is for the true music geek and chart fan.
