After decades as one of rock’s preeminent experimenters and badasses, Kim Gordon released her memoir, Girl In a Band, this week. We (myself and Tye Comer) were beyond honored that the rock icon sat down with us for an interview about her book on this week’s Must-Hear Music (or in this case, Must-Read Memoir) podcast.
Gordon explains why she opened the book with the 2011 dissolution of Sonic Youth — “It situates me where I am now, but also, I think that’s what people were most interested in” — and why New York in 2015 still excites her, but makes her feel “a little bit like an outsider.”
She also talks about the most difficult chapter of Girl In a Band to write — it isn’t the one you would assume — and her new duo with Alex Knost (yes, that’s another duo she’s in aside from Body/Head).
While Kim Gordon is an impossible act to follow, we – myself, Jason Lipshutz and Erika Ramirez — move on to chatting about new releases this week. Those include a solo single from fun.‘s Nate Ruess, a track from Big Sean’s No. 1-bound album, Dan Deacon‘s latest and an offering from newcomer Phoebe Ryan.
