Welcome to the new episode of Billboard’s Latin Connection Podcast — a weekly update on all things Latin music. If you fell out of the loop on exciting chart milestones, we’ve got you covered. Co-hosts Leila Cobo and Griselda Flores talk Deorro’s “Bailar,” featuring Elvis Crespo and Pitbull, climbing up the Latin charts and its first appearance on the mainstream lists, debuting at No. 39 on the Pop Songs chart (dated Nov. 12).
Leila shares the story behind the hit single, which has taken Crespo’s music career to a whole new level.
Another artist celebrating a chart milestone is reggaetón superstar Daddy Yankee, who recently scored his fourth No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs thanks to his hit “Shaky Shaky.” “I did not expect that a one-take improvisation was going to become an anthem,” the chart-topping artist told Billboard in a previous interview.
This week’s guest is Chilean singer-songwriter Francisca Valenzuela, who is making a lot of noise with her newly launched feminist music festival Ruidosa Fest, which celebrates female talent and includes musical showcases and empowering panels.
After the festival made its debut in her native Chile, the “Estremecer” singer — who is playing in Thursday night’s Red Bull Select Sound concert series in Los Angeles — is taking her Ruidosa Fest to Mexico City this weekend (Nov. 4 and 5), which will include participants like Ximena Sariñana and Le Butcherettes. “The goal is to have a conversation of gender issues, whether its barriers of participation or sexism,” Valenzuela tells Billboard.
