Welcome to the latest episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard’s weekly audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year’s biggest musical events. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and Billboard.com senior editor Katie Atkinson every Tuesday on the Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in iTunes (click here to listen to the previous episode on Billboard.com).
This week we’re joined by legendary singer/songwriter Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates, who is currently out on a summer tour with his four-decade-plus bandmate John Oates. Hall gave us a call to chat about why he still loves performing after all these years, the “long, fun journey” of his Live From Daryl’s House show (which just aired its 75th episode on MTV Live), and the enduring appeal of the H&O catalog. In addition to all those hits (“a good problem,” Hall says of the difficulty choosing a set list), he hints at the possibility of a deep cuts tour for the duo in the future.
Over on the charts, we talk about the brand-new No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following Drake‘s nine straight weeks up top: Blink-182‘s California. (Don’t feel too sorry for Drake: He’s still No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “One Dance.”) Also on the Hot 100, we chat about Fergie‘s top 40 debut with “M.I.L.F. $,” which got a boost from its provocative video starring Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Chrissy Teigen and more hot moms. Does this single mark a comeback for the Black Eyed Peas singer/rapper, a decade after her megahit debut solo album?
