Before Daft Punk announced Monday they were calling it quits, the French EDM duo helped usher dance music to its highest heights over nearly three decades of service. Some of those heights included the top of the Billboard charts, the top prize at the Grammys and the top U.S. festival.
On this week’s Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith talk about the group’s biggest mainstream moments since their 1993 formation, whether it’s their Billboard Hot 100 debut with “Around the World” in 1997 or their two top five hits with The Weeknd 20 years later, in 2017.
But the two biggest have to be Daft Punk’s landmark performance at Coachella in 2006 and their Grammy coronation in 2014 — and Katie was there for both of those moments and takes listeners inside. (Listen below.)
Also on the show, we’ve got chart news about how Lil Tjay’s “Calling My Phone,” featuring 6LACK, dials up a big debut on the Billboard Hot 100, how Taylor Swift’s re-recorded “Love Story” makes a splashy debut on the Hot 100 and enters at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart and how Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album is now only the third album in the past five years to spend at least six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Can you guess the other two?
