Carla Bruni is a name that looms large in many cultural spheres: fashion (she was a world-famous super model in the ’80s and ’90s), politics (her husband is former French President Nicolas Sarkozy) and, no less significantly: music. With a new album out called French Touch (in which Bruni covers some of her favorite songs by artists like The Rolling Stones, Patsy Cline and even AC/DC) the Italian-born songstress joined Soul Sisters to tell us what it was like to find herself aging out of modeling, only to reinvent herself as an internationally successful artist — even putting out an album while serving as the First Lady of France. (“What was I going to do?” she says of the songs she had already recorded. “Throw it away?”)
Plus — we had to ask her about that one time Donald Trump told the press they had dated, which she’s always denied. (“Isn’t that weird?” she asks. “But he did that with many people.”)
