You’ve been on Warped Tour all summer, eating food from rest stops and waking up at the crack of dawn to see what time you’re playing, or maybe peeking over a kid’s shoulder at a signing to see their schedule. What do you when you’re suddenly back home in New Jersey with your cat?
Candy Hearts frontwoman/social media maestro Mariel Loveland is using the down time to begin work on the band’s next album. She also stopped by Billboard’s New York office this week for a talk on the Alt In Our Stars podcast.
Loveland discussed the early stages of the writing process, and offered some advice for artists trying to stay sane on a tour like Warped. Their van recently broke down, and she offered some advice on vehicle upkeep, in addition to how to keep your gear from getting stolen.

On a happier note, she gave a play-by-play of what it was like to sing onstage with Weezer in a huge arena at this summer’s Alternative Press Music Awards. And on the topic of cool friends, she also chatted about how she got to know Paramore, Best Coast, and New Found Glory.
