Foo Fighters recently placed a mysterious clock on their website. Is it counting down to their next album? A second edition of their HBO series/2014 album Sonic Highways, perhaps? The producer behind that album (and a few others you might’ve heard of) stopped by Billboard’s New York office for a fascinating talk on a long life in rock ’n roll… along with some hints for the future.
“I think there is going to be a Sonic Highways II,” Butch Vig tells host Chris Payne. “But it’s still in discussions right now. I know Dave [Grohl] and HBO are both really want to do it, but it’s going to be different. It’s not going to be the same exact format as the last album… if it happens, it’ll probably happen next summer.”
Vig has known Grohl a long time, and he told some stories about the potential the then-Nirvana drummer flashed in the studio, recording Nevermind.
And there’s more! Vig is currently on tour drumming in Garbage, and he spoke about the band’s forthcoming sixth studio album — when to expect it and what it will sound like.
