Within the last two years, Bebe Rexha has slowly but surely made her way into the spotlight with guest vocal spots on “Hey Mama” by David Guetta, ft. Nicki Minaj and Afrojack, and “Me, Myself and I” by G-Eazy. And this March, she released “No Broken Hearts,” also featuring Minaj, the lead single from her upcoming debut album.
But Rexha doesn’t just write for her own voice. Here are seven songs that Bebe brought into the world for other artists.
1. “The Monster” – Eminem ft. Rihanna
Rexha made her first big splash by co-writing the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper “The Monster” for Eminem and Rihanna. Prior to penning the hook “I’m friends with the monster that’s under my bed,” Bebe worked at the Saks perfume counter where she encountered Rihanna. Rexha said she was really excited to see Rihanna, but Rihanna didn’t talk to her. It seems that Rihanna ended up being interested in what Rexha had to say.
2. “Like a Champion” – Selena Gomez
Bebe Rexha wrote “Like a Champion” for Gomez’s album Stars Dance. Between the Bajan accent that Gomez takes on for the song, and the lyrics — which include the line “shine like diamonds in the sky” — many have noted how the song brings to mind Rihanna.
3. “Team” – Iggy Azalea
Iggy’s hit “Team” took quite a large team — six songwriters in total. Bebe jumped in the stacked crew to help out with hooks. Four months before the release of the song, Iggy Azalea tweeted that Bebe Rexha had convinced her to “ugly-sing and it turned out great.” Bebe wrote another song for Iggy’s postponed album Digital Distortion. While working on “Team,” Rexha told Azalea a story about getting hit on in a bar. A guy came up to her and used the pickup line, “you girl look like a three day weekend.” Iggy said “it was so funny that I asked Bebe to put it in a song.” And thus, Iggy’s “Three Day Weekend” was born. Lesson learned: Be careful what you say to Bebe in a bar!
4. “Glowing” – Nikki Williams
Sneaking into business with the label Island Def Jam, Rexha crafted “Glowing” for Nikki Williams. The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
5. “Under You” – Nick Jonas
Bebe lent Nick Jonas a hand on his album Last Year Was Complicated with the song “Under You.” The song received attention especially for its music video, which includes a shower scene between Jonas and Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell.
6. “All Hands On Deck” – Tinashe
Rexha empowered listeners once again with Tinashe’s Aquarius single “All Hands on Deck.” This one taps themes Rexha is definitely familiar with — heartbreak and trying to stand up after the damage. It even has a remix version featuring Iggy Azalea.
7. “One More Night” – Bella Thorne
Out of the five songs on Thorne’s EP Jersey, Rexha helped write two. The other one she assisted with happened to be “Jersey” itself (despite Rexha’s home being Brooklyn and later Staten Island). It’s no wonder Thorne called upon Bebe for her EP — Rexha is known for her ability to write a great song about letting go of problems and taking hold of the dance floor, which is what “One More Night” is all about.
