Taylor Swift‘s Midnights arrived at last on Friday (Oct. 21), and fans know that the pop superstar is not afraid of some subtle, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shade in her music.
The 13 tracks of the singer’s 10th studio album tell “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” according to Swift, which immediately had fans analyzing the lyrics to figure out what (and who) keeps Taylor up at night.
And while some of the swoon-worthy love songs like “Lavender Haze” and “Sweet Nothing” are clearly about her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who wrote the latter with her, many of the songs are less obvious. As a result, Swifties flooded Twitter with their thoughts.
See below for some of the most popular unconfirmed fan theories about which celebrities Swift is calling out on Midnights, from John Mayer to Kanye West.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West
On “Vigilante S—,” Swift is “dressin’ for revenge” and rooting for all the women who have “simply had enough” of sour relationships.
While the superstar doesn’t mention anyone directly, fans on Twitter noticed a particular verse: “She needed cold hard proof, so I gave her some / She had the envelope, where you think she got it from? / Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride / Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife.”
Swifties began to speculate that the song may be about her public feud with Kanye West and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, flipping the script and now siding with the SKIMS founder.
As a little bonus, Midnights‘ release day also happened to be Kardashian’s birthday (Oct. 21). “happy birthday kim kardashian i hope you love vigilante s—,” one fan tweeted.

Scooter Braun
Another popular theory about “Vigilante S—” is that it might be about her feud with Scooter Braun, who filed for divorce from ex-wife Yael Cohen last July.
A divorce settlement revealed the music manager was ordered to pay $20 million to Cohen and pay $60,000 a month in child support to cover the costs of raising their three children.

John Mayer
When Swift unveiled her 3am edition of Midnights with seven more tracks, fans began buzzing about “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve,” which they believe is calling out Swift’s rumored ex-flame John Mayer.
“I would’ve stayed on my knees / And I damn sure never would’ve danced with the devil at nineteen,” she sings in the chorus, and the sentient bears a striking similarity to Speak Now track “Dear John,” which was also believed to be about Mayer due to the title. “Don’t you think nineteen is too young / To be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so? / I should’ve known,” she sings in the 2010 track.
