Wendy Williams told viewers of her show on Wednesday (Feb. 21) that she would need to take a doctors-ordered three week leave of absence from the show, due to her battle with Graves disease.
“My doctor has prescribed … are you ready? As of today, three weeks of vacation,” she told her fans, going on to relay her initial reaction to the medical advice: “What? Who are you? I was pissed.”
Graves disease causes overstimulation of the thyroid, which causes symptoms such as an enlarged thyroid, thinning of hair, anxiety, fatigue, and elevated blood pressure.
Williams cancelled several shows last week, after taking to social media to announce that she was suffering from flu-like symptoms. The host spoke with People magazine about her ongoing battle with Graves disease in July 2017, and in October 2017, Williams collapsed on air, later explaining that it was due to “overheating.”
